The new Polaroid film also needs to be shaded from light for 15 minutes as it develops-so forget shaking it like a Polaroid picture. Sharp, one of the hottest girls on Earth. That’s been our complaint with each iteration of these new Polaroid cameras, and at $2 per exposure, getting often blurry and over- or underexposed prints feels frustrating. But however much this revival pulled at our heartstrings with its nostalgic clunky shape and big red shutter button, the photographic results were unpredictable. A pared down version of previous attempts the OneStep+ and the OneStep 2, the Polaroid Now succeeds in analog simplicity, offering only the most basic controls plus a self-timer button and double exposure mode. Polaroid, single lens reflex camera, and photoflash unit can be quickly and sturdily mounted to a slit lamp. ![]() The Polaroid Now is the best we’ve seen yet from the company again known as Polaroid (née Polaroid Originals née Impossible Project). We looked for cameras that are rated to let you shoot at least 100 photos with a set of batteries and gave extra points to those that were able to shoot many more than that before exhausting their power supply. With a glossy, square print area, this ISO 160 film produces Polaroids with high tonal clarity and that classic film look outlined by a sharp white frame. Decent battery life: You should never have to bring more than one set of spare batteries when you take your instant camera out for the day.Creative controls: The simple, point-and-shoot fun of instant photos is great, but better instant cameras will also let you make minor adjustments to exposures, or even make multiple exposures on a single print to keep the experience fresh.Reasonably priced film: No instant film is cheap, but if the price is significantly more than $1 a print, you have to get a really nice photo to warrant that kind of expense. We believe part of the allure of an instant camera is being able to pass it around, again, without much instruction, at any social gathering. Easy to use: This should be a fun camera that can be enjoyed without much instruction or a big learning curve. The lens' fixed focus keeps everything sharp – well, fairly sharp – from 60cm (2ft) to infinity, so you just need to make sure you're not too close. There's no live preview LCD here – you peek through the viewfinder, press the button and hope for the best. Of course, that includes the pictures that don't come out as you expected. The new i-Type film produces the same results, but omitting the battery saves you £3 (about £1.88 per picture). The USB port saves you a few quid, though, because it charges a built-in battery, whereas the original 600 camera needs a battery built into every film pack. You can use 600 film stock, but at around £18 for eight shots (colour, black-and-white or tinted), it's a reminder of how expensive photography used to be. It looks suitably retro and appealingly chunky, especially in the white version (there's a “graphite” version too). The OneStep 2 looks similar to the classic Polaroid 600 (which you can still buy, for £20 more), but lacks the flip-over flash, incorporating everything into one rigid unit. If you want sharp, pixel-perfect pictures every time, then Polaroids are not for you. The microUSB port does nothing except charge the battery. This has to be the weirdest digital camera we've ever tested. ![]()
